About

Shine Bright Speech Therapy was founded by Alyson Paventa, M.S., CCC-SLP, a New Jersey-licensed and ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist specializing in pediatric speech and language therapy.

Alyson provides individualized, in-home speech and language therapy to children throughout Bergen County. By providing therapy in a child’s familiar environment, she is able to incorporate each child’s interests and everyday routines into treatment while encouraging family involvement and carryover at home.

Alyson believes that therapy is most effective when children feel comfortable, engaged, and understood. She takes a collaborative approach, working closely with families to develop meaningful goals and incorporate speech and language skills into everyday activities.

Alyson earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State University and her Master of Science in Communication Disorders from William Paterson University. She holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

With more than 10 years of experience, Alyson has evaluated and treated children with a variety of speech and language needs, including articulation and phonological disorders, receptive and expressive language disorders, and pragmatic (social) language difficulties. She has experience working with children with diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Alyson also has experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and is trained in PROMPT Level 1 and PECS Level 1.

She provides in-home services throughout Bergen County, including Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Fair Lawn, Paramus, Wyckoff, Waldwick, Midland Park, Hawthorne, and surrounding towns.

Services

Consultation

Consultations provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s communication needs, developmental history, and any concerns you may have. They can help determine whether a speech and language evaluation or therapy may be appropriate. Consultations may also include guidance for parents, teachers, and caregivers to support communication skills at home and in everyday activities.

Evaluations

A comprehensive speech and language evaluation is used to assess your child’s communication skills and identify areas that may benefit from support. Evaluations may include standardized assessments, developmental and medical history, parent interviews, and clinical observations.

Evaluations are conducted in the comfort of your child’s home. Following the evaluation, families receive a detailed written report outlining the findings and recommendations.

Therapy

Individualized speech and language therapy is provided in the comfort of your child’s home. Therapy goals are tailored to each child’s specific needs and are designed to support functional communication skills.

Family involvement is encouraged throughout the therapy process. Parents and caregivers are provided with strategies and activities that can be incorporated into everyday routines to support continued progress outside of therapy sessions.

2. Do you accept insurance?

Shine Bright Speech Therapy is an out-of-network provider and does not bill insurance directly. After each session, we can provide you with a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

A superbill includes information such as the date of service, fees paid, and applicable diagnosis and treatment codes. Coverage and reimbursement vary by insurance plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider to learn more about your out-of-network benefits. Please note that submitting a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement for services.

Please contact us if you would like to learn more about our rates.

3. What is the duration of a therapy session?

Therapy sessions are typically 30 minutes of direct therapy, although the duration may vary depending on each child’s individual needs.

Following each session, Alyson takes time to communicate with the caregiver about the child’s progress and provide strategies for practicing and carrying over skills at home.

Dreaming

4. Is an initial evaluation required?

Yes. An initial evaluation is typically required before beginning therapy to assess your child’s speech and language skills and develop an individualized treatment plan and goals.

If your child has completed a speech and language evaluation recently, we can review the evaluation report to determine whether additional testing is needed before beginning therapy.
